Alex Murdaugh Seeks DNA Review and Unsealing of Jury Tampering Files Ahead of Retrial

A former juror in Alex Murdaugh’s murder trial, Myra Crosby—known as the “egg juror”—has filed a Freedom of Information Act request to release records of the state investigation into former Colleton County court clerk Becky Hill’s alleged jury‑tampering. Crosby argues the public should see the evidence that led the South Carolina Supreme Court to overturn Murdaugh’s conviction after finding Hill’s conduct compromised the jury’s verdict. The attorney general indicated that video material may need redaction to protect juror identities.

Meanwhile, Murdaugh’s defense attorneys have moved to have an independent forensic genetics laboratory, Othram, re‑examine DNA recovered from under his wife Maggie Murdaugh’s fingernails. South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) reported the DNA belongs to an unknown, unrelated male, but said no further effort was made to identify the source. The defense seeks to preserve the limited sample for advanced testing and will cover the costs, as the retrial is scheduled for April 2027 following the Supreme Court’s reversal of the original convictions.
