Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is currently listed as day-to-day due to an undisclosed lower-body injury. The 41-year-old winger missed both Sunday and Monday morning training camp practices at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

Head coach Spencer Carbery stated that the team will monitor the situation throughout the week, noting that more accurate updates regarding Ovechkin’s availability for upcoming preseason games will be provided after scheduled rest days. This marks the third consecutive year that Ovechkin has dealt with an injury at the start of training camp.

Ovechkin enters what many believe could be his final NHL season after signing a one-year, $9.5 million contract. The Capitals are scheduled to begin their regular season on October 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
