Alex Ovechkin returns to Washington Capitals practice after injury
Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin has returned to full participation in team practices following a lower-body injury. After missing three consecutive practices and cutting a short skate session short on Wednesday, Ovechkin completed the entire practice session on Thursday without skipping any drills.
Head coach Spencer Carbery described the full workload as “a step in the right direction.” While there is a possibility Ovechkin could play in upcoming preseason games, Carbery stated that any decision regarding his availability will depend on consultations with medical staff and athletic trainer Jason Serbus.
The Capitals are scheduled to begin their regular-season campaign on October 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes. Carbery noted that given Ovechkin’s experience, playing in preseason games is not considered an absolute necessity for his readiness.
