Alex Palou overcomes car issue to top Indy 500 practice laps

During the opening practice for the 110th Indianapolis 500 on May 13, 2026, reigning champion Alex Palou reported a problem with the right‑rear of his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda and entered the pits. After nearly 90 minutes of inspection, the team found no mechanical fault – the issue was a balance concern. Palou said, “It wasn’t a mechanical issue or anything. It was just balance, not being super happy with it.”

He returned to the track with less than 15 minutes left and set the session’s fastest lap at 225.937 mph, reclaiming confidence ahead of qualifying. Marcus Armstrong recorded the second‑quickest time (225.895 mph) and Conor Daly was third (225.838 mph). Other top finishers included Josef Newgarden and Scott Dixon. The practice run highlighted Palou’s quick recovery and strong form heading into the race weekend.
