Alex Palou wins IndyCar Grand Prix of Portland

Alex Palou secured his sixth victory of the 2026 IndyCar season at the OnlyBulls Grand Prix of Portland, significantly strengthening his position in the championship race. Driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, Palou utilized a successful overcut strategy during the pit cycles to overtake pole-sitter Felix Rosenqvist. Palou led 60 of the 110 laps at the Portland International Raceway, finishing more than four seconds ahead of Rosenqvist.

Will Power completed the podium in third place, while Rinus VeeKay finished fourth. The victory extends Palou’s championship lead to 110 points over his closest rival, Kyle Kirkwood, with only five races remaining in the season.

Following the race, drivers Rosenqvist and Power expressed frustration regarding the handling of lapped cars, suggesting that current regulations allow lapped vehicles to impede leaders in a way that feels outdated. The series moves to Markham, Canada, for the next event.
