Alex Palou wins fifth IndyCar championship

Alex Palou, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, has secured his fifth IndyCar Series championship, marking a historic achievement in American motorsport. By finishing tenth in the second race at the Milwaukee Mile, Palou clinched the title with a 100-point lead.

This victory makes Palou the second driver in history to win four consecutive championships, matching the record set by Sebastien Bourdais. He also becomes the youngest driver to achieve five titles, trailing only legends A.J. Foyt and Scott Dixon in total championship count. Palou’s season was characterized by high consistency, including six wins and eight pole positions.

During the same weekend at Milwaukee, Pato O’Ward of Arrow McLaren achieved a double victory, winning both races held on Sunday. This performance made O’Ward the first driver to win two IndyCar races on the same day since 1981.
