Alex Palou clinches Nashville IndyCar win, extends championship lead

Alex Palou won the Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Superspeedway on Monday, July 20, 2026, after the race was postponed from Sunday because of rain. It was his fifth victory of the season and the 24th of his IndyCar career. The event was shortened to 225 laps (down from 300) because of extreme heat. Palou started fourth, took the lead shortly after the halfway point and held it for the final 95 laps, finishing 0.8731 seconds ahead of Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden.

Team Penske completed the podium when David Malukas, who had started last after a practice‑crash, recovered to finish third, leading 59 laps in his charge through the field. Kyle Kirkwood, pole‑sitter, fell back to tenth after a mistimed caution. The race featured several incidents, most notably a high‑speed collision between Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi that brought out a safety‑car period.

The win extended Palou’s points advantage in the championship to 83 points over Malukas, putting him on a strong path toward a fourth consecutive series title with six races remaining.
