Alex Rins apologizes for gesture toward marshals at MotoGP Indonesia
Monster Energy Yamaha rider Alex Rins has issued a public apology following a heated exchange with track marshals during the MotoGP Indonesia 2026 practice session at the Mandalika International Circuit. The incident occurred after Rins crashed with only two minutes remaining in the session.
Following the crash, a misunderstanding arose regarding evacuation procedures. Rins attempted to use a flying marshal's motorcycle to return to the paddock, but officials adhered to safety protocols. Officials from the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) clarified that because the crash occurred in the inner circuit area, the rider should have been evacuated by car rather than motorcycle to comply with established safety plans.
Rins admitted to reacting poorly due to the high stress of the moment and expressed regret for his gesture, noting that he should set a better example for young fans. Despite his apology, the rider reported receiving death threats and messages of violence on social media following the viral video of the incident.
