Alex Rins to retire from motorcycle racing for car racing

MotoGP rider Alex Rins has announced he will retire from motorcycle racing at the end of the current era, opting to transition to four-wheel car racing in 2027. The decision comes after Yamaha confirmed he would be dropped from its factory programme following the conclusion of the 1000cc era.

Rins stated that while he had viable opportunities to compete in the World Superbike championship next year, he chose to pursue a different project that provides greater motivation. He noted that the decision was difficult given his 14-year career in motorcycle racing, but expressed excitement for the new chapter.

Throughout his career, Rins achieved six Grand Prix victories and 18 podiums, most notably with Suzuki and later with LCR Honda and Yamaha. His recent seasons were impacted by a severe leg injury sustained at Mugello in 2023, which required multiple surgeries and affected his performance.
