Alex Roberto de Queiroz Silva on jury trial for murder of lawyer Renato Nery in Cuiabá

Alex Roberto de Queiroz Silva, the housekeeper who confessed to killing lawyer Renato Nery, former president of the Mato Grosso Bar Association, will be tried by a popular jury on 15 July 2024 at 9 a.m. in the Cuiabá Forum. The murder occurred on 5 July 2024 outside Nery’s office on Avenida Fernando Corrêa da Costa, and Silva was hired for a R$ 215 000 payment.

Judge Marcos Faleiros da Silva of the 1st Criminal Court authorized the admission of five prosecution witnesses, the presentation of seized evidence, and the use of audiovisual equipment for the trial, while denying the request for official recording of the proceedings. The defence may record the session independently. The case follows broader investigations that also linked local businessmen to the contract killing.

The trial marks the first phase of the criminal proceedings against Silva for the premeditated assassination of a prominent legal figure in Mato Grosso.
