Alex Van Halen calls Sammy Hagar a “complete idiot”
The long-standing feud between Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen and former frontman Sammy Hagar has escalated following recent comments made by the drummer. In an interview with the Brazilian magazine Roadie Crew, Alex Van Halen described Hagar as a “complete idiot” and stated he had no interest in reading Hagar’s 2011 autobiography, ‘Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock’.
While Alex spoke positively of David Lee Roth’s memoir, his remarks toward Hagar reignited tensions regarding the band's history. The rift reportedly stems from Hagar’s depiction of the late guitarist Eddie Van Halen, including his struggles with alcoholism. Additionally, Hagar has criticized Alex’s 2024 memoir, ‘Brothers’, for omitting the decade of successful albums and music created during Hagar’s tenure with the band.
Hagar has responded to the insults on social media, calling the comments “unnecessary” and expressing a desire for peace, noting that he has previously attempted to extend an olive branch to the drummer.
