Alexander Afenyo-Markin faces calls to resign amid extortion allegations
Emmanuel Kotin, Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Security and Counterterrorism, has called for the resignation of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin following allegations of extortion. Kotin argued that the Minority Leader should step down to preserve his own dignity and protect the reputation of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Kotin criticized Afenyo-Markin’s legal response to the allegations, describing his defamation suit as defective. He suggested that NPP leadership should compel his resignation to prevent further damage to the party's image, noting that some party members may fear political repercussions due to the leader's connections.
In a separate context, Alexander Afenyo-Markin spoke on the challenges of public service during a visit from the Lorlornyo Haborbor Cultural Group. He described leadership as a lonely journey and an everyday battle, emphasizing that prayer and spiritual resilience are essential for survival in politics.
