Alexander B. Cummings criticizes President Boakai over drug crisis

Alexander B. Cummings, leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), has criticized President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration for its handling of Liberia’s drug-trafficking crisis. During a radio interview in Monrovia, Cummings labeled Liberia a ‘narco state,’ alleging that weak institutions and corruption allow criminal networks to operate and potentially influence public officials.

Cummings challenged the government to provide evidence of progress in dismantling trafficking networks, noting that the country’s international reputation is at risk. The criticism follows high-profile narcotics incidents, such as the June seizure of approximately 237.6 kilograms of cocaine, valued at over US$19 million, at Roberts International Airport.

The Boakai administration has rejected these accusations, maintaining that illicit drugs and organized crime are designated as major national security threats and pledging to pursue traffickers.
