Daniil Medvedev wins Almaty Open to defend title

Daniil Medvedev secured his 25th career ATP title and his fourth of the 2026 season by winning the Almaty Open. In a comeback victory on October 25, the top seed defeated Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili with a score of 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-3.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Medvedev, as it is the first time in his professional career that he has successfully defended a tour-level title. He also became the first player to win the Almaty Open twice. The win bolsters his standing in the ATP race to Turin, where he currently holds the fifth position.

Basilashvili, who entered the tournament as a qualifier, provided strong resistance, taking the first set in a tiebreak. However, Medvedev regained control in the second and third sets, utilizing improved service efficiency and defensive play to secure the championship.
