Alexander Bublik names Zverev as ideal US Open final opponent
Tennis player Alexander Bublik has identified Alexander Zverev as his preferred opponent for a hypothetical US Open final. Speaking at a tennis court inauguration in St. Petersburg, the world No. 11 noted that he would have "more chances" against the German, who currently holds the world No. 2 ranking.
Bublik holds a favorable 3-1 head-to-head record against Zverev, including a victory in the 2023 Halle semifinals.
As he prepares for the final Grand Slam of the season, Bublik is following a unique preparation route. After competing in Gstaad and Kitzbühel, he has opted to skip the North American hard-court Masters 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati. While this decision allows for additional preparation time, it lacks the competitive rhythm provided by these major tournaments. Bublik noted that his regular absence from the Cincinnati Open is due to a family commitment regarding his son's birthday.
