The Gambia stuns Ghana with 4-2 comeback in AFCON qualifier
The Gambia secured a dramatic 4-2 comeback victory against Ghana in an AFCON 2027 qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium. After Ghana took an early 2-0 lead through Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan, The Gambia responded with two goals before halftime to level the score.
The Scorpions dominated the second half, with Ebrima Colley scoring twice to seal the win. The result leaves Ghana at the bottom of Group C without any points following their previous loss to Côte d'Ivoire, while The Gambia moves to the top of the group.
Ghana captain Gideon Mensah and head coach Carlos Queiroz both accepted responsibility for the defeat. Queiroz, facing mounting pressure, defended his international record and noted an unprecedented injury crisis that has left the squad without 24 players from the national A team. He expressed willingness to resign if the Ghana Football Association deems it necessary for the good of the sport.
