Alexander Ernstberger claims political influence in Allra case

Alexander Ernstberger, who was sentenced to six years in prison in 2021 in connection with the Allra affair involving pension funds, claims his conviction was the result of political maneuvering. Ernstberger alleges that the Social Democrats used the scandal to facilitate a cross-bloc political agreement and reform the pension system.

Defense lawyers previously filed for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court, alleging bias and claiming that representatives from the Ministry of Finance, then led by Magdalena Andersson, contacted members of the Court of Appeal to influence the verdict.

A key witness, described by Ernstberger as a ‘grey eminence’ with extensive political and business connections, has provided testimony to the investigative program Uppdrag granskning. While Ernstberger’s legal team recorded anonymous calls regarding potential judicial influence, the witness later sent a message to lawyer Carl-Johan Malmberg stating that the speculations and anonymous calls had not confirmed the alleged instances of bias.
