Alexander Melinz Leads Austrian KPÖ Aid Mission to Cuba

A delegation of five activists from the Styrian branch of Austria’s Communist Party (KPÖ), including party leader and state parliament member Alexander Melinz, flew to Cuba carrying humanitarian aid worth about €20,000. The cargo includes medicines, menstrual products and children’s toys, collected through donations.

The aid is slated for delivery to the Hospital Ciro Redondo García in Artemisa, the Federation of Cuban Women, and an orphanage in Cienfuegos. The KPÖ frames the trip as a concrete act of international solidarity amid severe shortages on the island, which it attributes to the long‑standing U.S. oil embargo and the resulting economic crisis.

Melinz said the mission aims to show that “the people in Cuba are not left alone” and to provide tangible support during a period of widespread power cuts, water scarcity and medical supply gaps.
