Alexander Petschnig re-elected as FPÖ Burgenland chairman

Alexander Petschnig has been re-elected as the state party chairman of the FPÖ Burgenland during the party's 35th state congress in Jennersdorf. Petschnig secured 66.5 percent of the delegate votes, winning a contested election against challenger and state parliament member Mario Jaksch, who received 33.5 percent.

The event was marked by internal tension and external protests. Inside the congress, some delegates criticized Petschnig for being responsible for a “torn party,” a claim he rejected. Outside the venue, nearly one hundred demonstrators from the “Widersetzen Wien” alliance gathered to protest against right-wing politics. Petschnig criticized the local district authority for failing to keep the protesters further away from the event.

Petschnig, a member of the National Council who has led the state party since 2020, stated he would take the internal criticism to heart and expressed a desire for such feedback to be shared within official committees rather than publicly during party congresses.
