Alexander Schott appointed president of Germany's Aviation Authority

Alexander Schott took office on 1 August as the new president of the Luftfahrt‑Bundesamt (LBA) in Braunschweig, succeeding Jörg Werner Mendel, who entered phased retirement in January. The appointment was announced by the Federal Ministry of Transport and highlighted by transport minister Steffen Bilger (CDU), who called the LBA a “pillar” of German aviation.

Schott, a former senior civil servant in the Federal Ministry of Defence where he directed research, innovation and the cyber‑ and AI‑strategy for the Bundeswehr, is described as an “administrative and innovation expert”. He said he will work with LBA staff to advance digitalisation, sustainability and safety standards as the sector undergoes deep transformation.
