SPD leadership changes in Rhineland-Palatinate and political pressure in Neunkirchen

The SPD in Rhineland-Palatinate has announced significant leadership restructuring. Following Alexander Schweitzer’s appointment as Federal Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, the party has nominated him to become the state party chairman, a position he has held in an interim capacity since May. In the state parliament, Jaqueline Rauschkolb has been elected as the new chair of the SPD parliamentary group, narrowly defeating Benedikt Oster in a second round of voting. Rauschkolb, who previously served as Vice President of the Landtag, succeeds Schweitzer in this role.

Separately, in Neunkirchen, Saarland, SPD Mayor Jörg Aumann is facing intense political pressure. Saarland Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger has called for a renewed vote of confidence in the city council, citing a clear loss of trust. Aumann is currently under investigation by the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office on suspicion of breach of trust regarding expenses related to official travel. Meanwhile, the FREIE WÄHLER/FDP faction has submitted a motion to initiate removal proceedings for Mayor Lisa Hensler.
