Alexander Stubb dismisses warnings of Russian attack on NATO

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has dismissed warnings from German defense leadership suggesting that Russia could be capable of attacking NATO territory by 2029. In an interview with the German newspaper Bild, Stubb stated that he sees no evidence or facts to support such a scenario, arguing that Russia would not risk a confrontation with the world’s most powerful military alliance.

Stubb emphasized that NATO’s deterrence, built on conventional forces, missiles, and nuclear weapons, remains exceptionally strong. While he does not believe an attack is imminent, he advised that Europe should not lower its readiness. He noted that nations should always prepare for the worst to prevent it from happening.

The President also suggested that Russia utilizes information warfare to spread fear across Europe, aiming to trigger debates regarding escalation and the use of nuclear weapons. Regarding Russia's current military capacity, Stubb indicated that their ability to escalate further is limited, though he noted that a new Russian mobilization remains a possibility.
