Alexander Volkanovski defends featherweight title at UFC 333

Alexander Volkanovski successfully defended his UFC featherweight title at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi, securing a second-round TKO victory over the previously undefeated Movsar Evloev. The finish occurred with only seconds remaining in the second round, handing Evloev the first loss of his professional career.

Volkanovski revealed after the bout that he competed while suffering from a chest infection. He chose to refuse legal medication to avoid any perception of an unfair advantage, viewing the illness as an additional challenge to overcome.

Following the victory, discussions regarding Volkanovski’s next move include potential matchups against Justin Gaethje for the lightweight title, a rematch with Ilia Topuria, or a bout against Aljamain Sterling. While contender Jean Silva has publicly called for a title shot, Volkanovski’s head coach, Joe Lopez, stated that the team does not believe Silva has earned the spot and would prefer a fight against Sterling.
