German star Alexander Zverev claims first Grand Slam title at 2026 French Open
Alexander Zverev of Germany defeated Italy’s Flavio Cobolli in a five‑set final (6‑1, 4‑6, 6‑4, 6‑7 (5), 6‑1) to win his first Grand Slam at the 2026 French Open in Paris. The match lasted 4 hours 16 minutes and earned Zverev €2.8 million in prize money and 2 000 ATP ranking points.
Zverev became the first German man to win Roland Garros since Boris Becker in 1996 and the third German male Grand Slam champion of the Open Era. His victory came after three previous Grand Slam final losses (2020 US Open, 2024 French Open, 2025 Australian Open). The tournament’s draw opened up after defending champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrew with a wrist injury and top‑seed Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic were eliminated early, clearing the path for Zverev’s triumph.
