Alexander Zverev wins Beijing opener, advances to round of 16

Alexander Zverev opened his ATP 500 Beijing campaign with a straight-sets victory over Cameron Norrie, winning 7-6 (7-1) and 6-4. The world number two extended his head-to-head record against the Briton to 9-0. Following the match, Zverev criticized proposals to reduce Grand Slam matches to best-of-three sets, suggesting that such a move might only appeal to older players like Novak Djokovic.

In other tournament action, Novak Djokovic defeated Yunchaokete Bu 2-1 (4-6, 7-6, 6-2) to reach the quarterfinals, marking his 31st victory in Beijing. The win also ended a streak dating back to 2013 where Djokovic had not lost a set at the China Open.

The tournament, held at the National Tennis Center, features a strong field including players like Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev. Defending champion Jannik Sinner is unable to compete due to a knee injury.
