Alexander Zverev reaches Wimbledon fourth round with straight‑sets win
World No. 3 and recent French Open champion Alexander Zverev advanced to the Wimbledon fourth round after defeating American Marcos Giron 6‑2, 7‑6 (4), 6‑4. The victory marks Zverev’s best Wimbledon result to date – his fourth appearance in the last‑16 – and puts him into the quarter‑finals for the first time at the All England Club. He will meet 13th‑seeded Czech Jiri Lehecka in the next round.
Zverev, the tournament’s second seed, said he feels “different from last year” and has “more confidence in important moments”. He highlighted his serve, noting an average speed of 132 mph and a target of 133 mph for the following match. During the post‑match interview, former British No. 1 Annabel Croft apologized after Zverev’s brief, unexpected reply to her comments about his serving performance.
The German’s strong showing follows his maiden Grand Slam title at Roland Garros, and he emphasized that arriving in London with a recent major win “helps everybody”.
