Alexander Zverev wins first Grand Slam at French Open
Germany's Alexander Zverev, aged 29, captured his maiden Grand Slam title by defeating Italy's Flavio Cobolli in a five‑set final at Roland Garros. Zverev triumphed 6‑1, 4‑6, 6‑4, 6‑7(5), 6‑1 after a match lasting just over four hours, becoming the first German man to win a major since Boris Becker in 1996.
The victory came after the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrew with injury and early exits by Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic opened the draw. Cobolli, the 24‑year‑old Italian, had reached his first major final and was looking to become the first Italian man to win the French Open in five decades. Zverev's win adds a major title to a career that previously included four final appearances and numerous quarter‑ and semi‑final losses.
