Czech Republic defeats United States to reach Davis Cup Finals
The Czech Republic secured a place in the Davis Cup Finals by defeating the United States 3-2 in a qualifying tie held in Prague. After the opening day ended in a 1-1 tie, the United States took a 2-1 lead following a doubles victory by Christian Harrison and Austin Krajicek over Adam Pavlásek and Patrik Rikl.
However, the Czech team staged a comeback in the reverse singles. Jakub Menšík defeated US Open finalist Ben Shelton 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, and Jiří Lehečka clinched the victory by beating Learner Tien 6-3, 7-5. The win marks the second consecutive year the Czech Republic has overturned a 2-1 deficit to beat the United States.
In other qualifying action, South Korea advanced toward the Finals by taking a 2-0 lead over India, while Austria and Belgium were tied 1-1. The winners of these qualifying rounds will join defending champion Italy in the Final 8 tournament in Bologna this November.
