Alexanderplatz station undergoes renovation to blend DDR history with modernity

Alexanderplatz station in Berlin is undergoing a major renovation process, with the gutting phase currently underway. Deutsche Bahn aims to modernize the facility while preserving its historical DDR architecture, making the station's East German past more visible through new design elements.

As part of the technical overhaul, shops and catering services have vacated the premises, and walkways have been rerouted. The project, managed by DB InfraGO, involves removing all interior fittings and much of the building's technical equipment. The renovation is expected to be completed by mid-2030.
