Alexandra Chiriac legal classification changed by High Court

The High Court of Cassation and Justice has changed the legal classification of a case involving lawyer Alexandra Chiriac, who was previously sentenced to seven years in prison for attempted murder. The incident occurred on May 30, 2024, in Iași, when Chiriac struck a motorcyclist with a luxury vehicle and fled the scene.

The court has reclassified the act from attempted murder to negligent bodily harm and leaving the scene of an accident. This legal shift significantly alters the potential penalties; while attempted murder carries heavy prison terms, negligent bodily harm carries a maximum of three years, and leaving the scene of an accident carries between two and seven years.
