Alexandra Meissnitzer appointed to key FIS strategic role

Former ski champion Alexandra Meissnitzer has been appointed as the Director of Strategy & Public Affairs for the International Ski Federation (FIS). This new role, established under the leadership of President Alexander Ospelt, follows a period of tension where Meissnitzer had been excluded from a FIS congress after criticizing former president Johan Eliasch.

In her new capacity, Meissnitzer will focus on the strategic development of the sport, modernizing organizational structures, and improving cooperation with national ski federations. Her objectives include addressing challenges such as climate change, supporting youth development, and promoting smaller skiing nations and less prominent disciplines. She also aims to enhance the marketing of athletes to build global sports stars through better event presentation and increased prize money.

Additionally, Meissnitzer expressed her support for a potential comeback by eight-time overall World Cup winner Marcel Hirscher, stating that she would advocate for him to receive a wildcard should he require one to compete.
