Alexandra Palace to host events marking 90 years of BBC television

The Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust has announced a new autumn event season titled ‘BBC TV 90 at Ally Pally’. The programme commemorates the 90th anniversary of the first BBC television broadcast, which took place at Alexandra Palace on November 2, 1936.

Running from September 19 to November 19, the season will feature a variety of talks, screenings, performances, and special events utilizing the Alexandra Palace Television Society archive. The scheduled discussions will cover diverse themes, including children’s television, women pioneers, education, LGBTQ+ broadcasting, and black representation.

In addition to historical reflections by broadcasters, historians, and academics, the Palace’s Creative Learning team will present original productions inspired by the site’s broadcasting heritage.
