Alexandre Aleluia gains majority support for Salvador Chamber presidency

Councilman Alexandre Aleluia (Novo) has secured the support of 31 out of 43 council members to preside over the Salvador Municipal Chamber (CMS). The momentum grew throughout Friday, starting with 23 declared supporters during a meeting at the União Brasil headquarters and increasing as additional members from various parties joined the coalition.

The coalition includes representatives from Progressistas, PSDB, Cidadania, PL, DC, PRD, PDT, and Novo. Key endorsements came from the PSDB leadership, as well as the Republicanos and PRD benches. Aleluia, who currently serves as the president of the Constitution and Justice Commission, aims to succeed Carlos Muniz (PSDB) in the leadership role.

Aleluia noted that the movement seeks a peaceful and democratic election with an absolute majority. He also highlighted the support of Mayor Bruno Reis, who stated he would respect the sovereign will of the council members within his government's base.
