Alexandre Aleluia gains opposition support for Salvador City Council presidency

The opposition bloc in the Salvador City Council has moved toward supporting Alexandre Aleluia (Novo) for the presidency of the House. Following a meeting of the opposition caucus, several members from the Podemos, PSD, and MDB parties announced their support for Aleluia, who seeks to succeed Carlos Muniz (PSDB).

As part of the agreement, Aleluia has addressed several demands from the opposition leaders, including Randerson Leal (Podemos). These commitments focus on strengthening the legislative branch's autonomy from the Salvador City Hall, ensuring the independence of the Council, prioritizing projects initiated by council members, and guaranteeing proportionality in the composition of permanent committees.

While the opposition has decided to allow individual parties to define their own positions based on internal guidance, Aleluia has reportedly indicated support for the group's agenda regarding legislative protagonism and the regulation of parliamentary amendments.
