Alexandre de Moraes criticizes digital influencers and defends traditional media

Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes criticized digital influencers during an event at the Municipal Court of Accounts in São Paulo on Monday. Moraes argued that some content creators contribute to the discredit of traditional media by commenting on complex global and local issues without sufficient knowledge.

He noted that some influencers achieve higher audiences than traditional news programs, a phenomenon he linked to the weakening of trust in established journalism. Moraes also addressed the role of big tech algorithms, stating they can create information bubbles and treat voters as consumers while presenting political candidates as products to be sold.

Additionally, the Minister has recently joined fellow Minister Flávio Dino in advocating for a return to the debate regarding the mandatory requirement of a journalism diploma to practice the profession, a requirement that was overturned by the STF in 2009.
