Alexandre de Moraes faces legal petitions and university disciplinary requests

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes is facing multiple legal and administrative challenges in Brazil. Justice André Mendonça has submitted a petition to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) requesting an investigation into Moraes for potential abuse of authority and false accusation. Mendonça’s filing, sent to STF President Edson Fachin, contests Federal Police intelligence reports used in recent operations, labeling them as illicit attempts to obstruct justice. Mendonça has also requested full access to the ‘fake news inquiry’ (Inquérito 4.781) to examine related elements.

Simultaneously, the Novo party has filed a request with the University of São Paulo (USP) to open a disciplinary administrative process against Moraes. The petition seeks his precautionary removal from his position as a professor at the USP Law School. The request cites allegations involving Moraes’s connections to Banco Master and its controller, Daniel Vorcaro, as well as a contract between Banco Master and the law firm owned by Moraes’s wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes. The party alleges potential infractions including administrative improbity and influence peddling.
