Alexandre Pato joins Northampton Town ownership consortium
Former Brazilian international striker Alexandre Pato has joined Sports Alpha Capital, a consortium that has acquired a 70% majority stake in Northampton Town. The English League Two club's takeover was finalized on September 30 following approval from English football regulators.
Pato will serve as a director on the club's board of directors. The investment group, which also includes investors João Xavier, Tim Chamberlain, and Pedro Piquet, aims to develop the club through financial sustainability and community engagement. The transaction was completed without debt, despite the club reporting a pre-tax loss of approximately £3 million in April 2026.
In discussing the move, Pato cited the success of Wrexham AFC as an inspiration and noted his personal connection to the club, mentioning he used to play as Northampton Town in video games during his youth. The previous owners, David Bower, Nigel Le Quesne, and Kelvin Thomas, will retain a combined 30% stake in the club.
