Alexandria coast experiences noticeable sea level recession
A noticeable recession of sea levels has been observed along several areas of the Alexandria coast in Egypt, including Manshiya, El Raml, and El Selsela. This retreat has exposed rocks and sand previously submerged near the Corniche, prompting public inquiry.
The National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries attributed the phenomenon to sea level fluctuations, noting that water movement changes periodically, which can cause varying sea levels along the shoreline.
Dr. Amr Hamouda, a professor of marine geophysics and head of the Marine Hazard Mitigation Center (MHMC) at UNESCO, stated that the observations are linked to sea level oscillations. He also noted expectations of rising atmospheric pressure toward the end of the week. Experts continue to monitor the coastal conditions in light of these meteorological and marine factors.
