Alexandria launches ‘Khoutwa Aman’ initiative to combat human trafficking

The ‘Khoutwa Aman’ (Step of Safety) national initiative was launched in Alexandria to combat human trafficking and raise community awareness. Organized by the Victims of Trafficking Assistance Fund and sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the event took place at the Alexandria Library to mark World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

To promote awareness, the launch included a 5-kilometer awareness marathon involving approximately 500 participants, including youth parliament members and volunteers. The initiative aims to educate citizens, particularly youth, on the risks of exploitation and the methods used for deception, including digital and online recruitment tactics.

Dr. Amira Yassin, Deputy Governor of Alexandria, and Dr. Safaa El-Sherif, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, emphasized that combating trafficking requires both legal measures and preventative awareness. The program focuses on helping individuals recognize danger signs and providing information on reporting mechanisms and available support services for victims.
