Alexandria Media Complex holds digital awareness seminar on user protection
The Alexandria Media Complex, in partnership with Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), organized a digital‑awareness seminar on Saturday. The event was held under the patronage of Ambassador Alaa Youssef, head of the General Authority for Information, and within the internal media sector strategy led by Major General Dr. Tamer Shams al‑Din. Speakers included Amani Sareeh, director of Alexandria Media, Dr. Rania Abu Al‑Khair of the Alexandria Health Directorate, and NTRA’s executive director of outreach Dina Qabeel.
Participants were urged to adopt safe technology practices: download apps only from official stores, use antivirus software, avoid unknown links, and protect personal data. They were reminded that inactive phone lines are disconnected after 90 days of no use, and that users should make at least one call or SMS each month to keep lines active. The NTRA’s hotline (155) and reporting numbers (108 for suspicious calls) were highlighted. Child‑safety services “Atman” and “Atman on the Other” were presented as tools for securing children’s online environment without needing a new SIM. The seminar also warned that electronic extortion is a growing cyber‑crime, emphasizing the need to educate children about not sharing personal images or data online.
