Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has renewed her membership in the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) after a seven-year hiatus. Following her rejoining, leaders within the organization announced plans to launch a petition seeking the DSA’s official endorsement of Ocasio-Cortez for the 2028 presidential election.

Critics, including former Democratic Chief Counsel for the House Judiciary Committee Julian Epstein, have characterized the DSA as a communist organization. Epstein cited data regarding the group’s policy committee, alleging that approximately 51% of the governing board openly embraces ideologies such as communism, Marxism, or Marxism-Leninism.
