Nikos Vertis reflects on the death of Giorgos Mazonakis

Greek singer Nikos Vertis has spoken about the sudden death of colleague Giorgos Mazonakis, expressing deep sadness over the artist's struggle with depression. During an interview on the program ‘Protos Kafes me ti Zina’, Vertis noted that many people in Mazonakis's circle attempted to support him during his difficult period, but he was unable to find positive energy. Vertis praised Mazonakis as a talented performer and a ‘showman’ who left a massive artistic legacy.

Comedian Alexandros Tsovelas also addressed the loss, reflecting on the loneliness that can accompany great fame and success. He criticized those who exploit tragic events for self-promotion, stating he wished to focus on the isolation felt by those in the spotlight.

In a separate statement, Maria Mazonaki, the sister of the deceased singer, expressed intense anger and grief. She characterized the loss as an ‘unjust passing’ and suggested that the circumstances surrounding his death involved exploitation by others.
