Alexandroupoli police seize 182 counterfeit 50 euro notes

Police in Alexandroupoli have dismantled a counterfeit currency operation, resulting in several arrests and the seizure of a significant amount of forged banknotes. The operation, conducted by the local Crime Investigation and Prosecution Department, targeted the circulation of fake 50 euro notes.

Following the initial arrest of a foreign national caught attempting to use forged notes at local kiosks, a coordinated police raid led to the apprehension of additional suspects, including a minor. Authorities seized a total of 182 counterfeit 50 euro banknotes with a combined face value of 9,100 euros.

In addition to the forged currency, investigators recovered 1,110 euros in genuine banknotes, 1.4 grams of raw cannabis, three mobile phones, a car, and a moped. The suspects face various charges, including counterfeiting, money laundering, and criminal organization.
