Alexandroupoli to receive €3.97 million gymnastics centre funded by Eastern Macedonia‑Thrace region

The regional governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christodoulos Topsidis, approved the inclusion of the "Gymnastics House" project in the 2021‑2027 development programme. The €3,969,476.92 investment will be allocated to the municipality of Alexandroupoli to construct a modern sports facility within the existing local sports complex.

The centre will accommodate various gymnastics disciplines—including artistic, acrobatic and aerobic gymnastics—and will provide competition and support spaces for athletes, coaches and spectators. Topsidis said, "Strengthening sports infrastructure is a constant priority for the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region. By adding the Gymnastics House we create the conditions for sport development, support a new generation of athletes and improve citizens' quality of life." The project is co‑financed by the EU Regional Development Fund and forms part of Alexandroupoli's Sustainable Urban Development Strategy.

Construction is slated to begin later in 2026, aiming to enhance local sporting opportunities and attract regional events.
