Alexandru Nazare considered for Romanian Prime Minister role
Alexandru Nazare, the interim Minister of Finance, has emerged as a potential candidate for the position of Prime Minister of Romania in the event of a technocratic government. PSD Deputy Bogdan Ivan stated that the Social Democratic Party would consider Nazare a viable option, although the party’s preferred candidate remains its leader, Sorin Grindeanu.
Bogdan Ivan noted that the PSD has shown flexibility in government formation negotiations, expressing willingness to support a non-party Prime Minister if President Nicușor Dan pursues a technocratic vision.
When asked about the possibility of accepting the premiership, Nazare declined to comment directly on potential negotiations, stating that such discussions must occur between political parties. He emphasized the urgent need for a stable government to address budgetary rectifications and the 2027 budget project. Nazare also highlighted recent fiscal improvements, noting a deficit reduction of 28 billion compared to the previous year and a 9 billion increase in investments.
