Alexandru Onaca to join scientific expedition to Antarctica
Alexandru Onaca, a lecturer from the West University of Timișoara (UVT), will participate in a scientific expedition to Antarctica this December. The mission, organized by the National Institute for Biological Research in Romania (INCDSB), aims to conduct field observations, measurements, and sample collection in one of Earth’s most extreme environments.
The expedition is part of an international scientific cooperation involving several Romanian universities and the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI). Research will take place at the King Sejong Station on King George Island, where Romanian scientists have been active since 2015.
The primary objectives include gathering durable data on biodiversity, environmental adaptation, and public health to support future research and academic publications. UVT officials noted that the mission seeks to generate relevant scientific results and new research opportunities for students and doctoral candidates.
