Alexandru Toader arrested for sexual assault allegations

Alexandru Toader, a lecturer at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University and a public notary, has been placed under 30-day preventive arrest by the Iași Court of Appeal. He faces charges including continuous rape, sexual aggression, attempted sexual aggression, and the use of his professional position for sexual purposes.

Prosecutors allege that Toader exploited his authority over students to obtain sexual favors, often following failed examinations. The investigation is based on seven complaints, with alleged incidents occurring between 2022 and 2025. One student reported being pressured into sexual relations at both his university office and his notary office.

In response to the arrest, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University announced the automatic suspension of Toader’s employment contract. The university’s Ethics Commission is continuing its internal investigation.

Tudorel Toader, the former Minister of Justice and father of the accused, is acting as his son’s legal representative. He has publicly claimed the case is an attack against him, alleging that a lawyer orchestrated the accusations to improve her own legal standing.
