Alexia Putellas wins record-equalling third Ballon d'Or Féminin
Spanish midfielder Alexia Putellas has won the 2026 Ballon d'Or Féminin, marking her third career victory and matching the record held by her teammate Aitana Bonmatí. The award, presented in London, recognizes Putellas's exceptional performance during the 2025-26 season.
Before joining the London City Lionesses in July, Putellas captained FC Barcelona to a historic quadruple, winning Liga F, Copa de la Reina, Supercopa de España, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Her individual statistics were notable, contributing 26 goals and 15 assists across club and international play, including a victory in the UEFA Women’s Nations League with Spain.
This victory serves as a significant comeback for the 32-year-old, who overcame a career-threatening ACL injury in 2022. Putellas also expressed pride in the dominance of Spanish football, noting that Spanish players have secured the award for six consecutive years. In her acceptance speech, she encouraged young athletes to pursue their dreams regardless of gender or background.
