Alexion and Aide Health launch AI app for rare disease patients

Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease, and UK-based digital health company Aide Health have partnered to provide two years of free access to the Mirror app for individuals living with rare diseases. The AI-powered application is designed to help patients manage the complexities of medical care by capturing information from consultations and converting it into easy-to-read summaries.

The initiative aims to address significant challenges faced by the more than 3.5 million people in the UK living with rare conditions. Research indicates that between 40% and 80% of medical information can be forgotten immediately following a consultation. The app allows users to revisit discussions, reduce uncertainty, and share notes with family members, carers, or other clinicians to avoid the burden of repeatedly explaining their conditions.

According to RareCare research, 47% of people living with a rare disease felt healthcare providers did not share information effectively, while 40% rated collaboration between doctors and services as poor or very poor. The Mirror app seeks to bridge this gap by providing a practical tool for managing unfamiliar terminology and complex medical decisions.
