Córdoba councilors file corruption complaint over nightlife inspections

Opposition councilors in Córdoba have filed a criminal complaint alleging corruption within the municipal system for licensing and inspecting nightlife venues. The complaint suggests an organized structure involving illegal payments, referred to informally as ‘la semanal’, to avoid closures or unfavorable inspections. The allegations include claims that municipal officials omitted required controls in exchange for economic benefits.

In response, municipal and provincial authorities met at the Palacio 6 de Julio to discuss public safety and defend the transparency of current control schemes. Vice Mayor Javier Pretto and the head of the Inspection and Control Entity, Ezequiel Hormaeche, emphasized that the local administration has been proactive, noting that the municipality itself had previously filed criminal complaints to investigate irregularities. While officials reaffirmed the progress of systematic audits, opposition councilors chose not to attend the working session.
